Clear Your Web Browers's Cache and Cookies

How to clear the cache and cookies in major web browsers

About Cache

You web browsers's cache and cookies contain saved data such as the following items. Clearing your cache will often resolve problems with issues on the webpage.

  • Saved login information ("Remember my password")
  • Address bar predictions / URL redirects
  • Site layout or display preferences
  • Shopping cart contents
  • Other miscellaneous site data
A shortcut to opening the clear cache page on most modern browsers is to press the key sequence Ctrl + Shift + Del.

Google Chrome

  • In the browser URL bar, type in the following:
    • chrome://settings/clearBrowserData
  • At the top of the Clear browsing data window, click on the Advanced tab.
  • Select the following:
    • Browsing history
    • Download history
    • Cookies and other site data
    • Cached images and files
  • From the Time range dropdown, choose All time
  • Click CLEAR DATA
  • Close all tabs of Chrome and re-open the browser

Mozilla Firefox

  • Press the Alt button on your keyboard to make the menus visible
  • Click on the History menu and select Clear recent history
  • From the Time range to clear dropdown, choose Everything
  • Click the down arrow next to Details and select the following:
    • Cookies
    • Cache
    • Active Logins
    • Offline Website Data
    • Site Preferences
  • Click Clear Now
  • Close all tabs of Firefox and re-open the browser

Microsoft Edge

  • In the top right, click the Hub icon (looks like part of a Star with three horizontal lines in the top right corner.)
  • Click on the History icon (looks like a clock)
  • Click on Clear history
  • Select the following:
    • Cookies and saved website data
    • Cached data and files
    • Active Logins
    • Offline Website Data
    • Site Preferences
  • Click Clear
  • Close all tabs of Edge and re-open the browser

Internet Explorer

  • Press the Alt button on your keyboard to make the menus visible
  • Click on the Tools menu and select Delete browsing history...
  • Unselect the following:
    • Preserve Favorites website data
  • Select the following:
    • Temporary Internet files and website files
    • Cookies and website data
  • Click Delete
  • Close all tabs of Internet Explorer and re-open the browser
