Restart or Shutdown Windows 10

How to restart or shut down Windows 10

Restarting Windows means that you are being logged out of your computer so that it can fully power off and start back up. This is useful if you computer is running slowly due to extended use or if applications are not running correctly.

Shutting down Windows means that you are being logged out of your computer so that it can fully power off. Shutting your computer down is safer than disconnecting power as it allows the computer to save information and prevent system errors and make sure that everything is running stable.

In both restarting and shutting down, Windows will prompt you if you have forgotten to save any documents and give you the option to cancel a restart or shutdown to save those files.

1. Shut down all running programs and open the Start Menu

Open Start Menu

Note: Be sure to save your work as you close your programs.

2. Select the Power Options icon and select either Shutdown or Restart.
